Rules

Tournament Rules

  1. Coaches and managers are responsible for reading and understanding the rules. Any question or doubt should be raised prior to the start of the tournament.
  2. Coaches and team staff are responsible for their actions and those of their members (players, parents ...) We will follow a Zero Tolerance Policy
  3. Each team will play a minimum of four games.
  4. Teams must be ready to start 15 minutes before scheduled time.
  5. Home team will wear light color jerseys, visiting team in dark. Where there is a conflict the non-conformed team will be asked to change or wear pinnies.
  6. All games will be three periods of 12 minutes stopped time.  High School division will play 2 - 18 minute stop time halves.
  7. All players must be on the first game sheet to be eligible to play in the tournament.
  8. Minor penalties will be 1 minute 30 seconds, Major penalties will be 4 minutes, Misconduct penalties will be 10 minutes.
  9. Playing Rules will be in accordance with the USA Hockey Official rule book.
  10. The Ice will be made at the end of every game.
  11. Teams will be allotted 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss.
  12. A player can only play for 1 team per division during the tournament weekend.
  13. A team that does not present itself to a game will be subjected to a disciplinary committee and subject to expulsion from the tournament.
  14. Should an “act of god” happen (power failure, major injury, storm …), after ½ hour wait the game will be called and the score remain as is no matter how long the game was running at the time of the “act of god”.
  15. If a difference of five goals or more exists at any time from the beginning of the 3rd period on, the remainder of the game will be of running time. The time will stop again should the differential be reduced to a 3 goal differential (ex. 5-2).
  16. No matter what the score ends up, a team will not be credited more than a 6 goal difference.
  17. One 30-second time out per team per game will be permitted.
  18. Each team must be prepared to furnish a proof of age for any of its players upon the organizer’s request. Failure to do so will mean the expulsion of the player from the tournament until such proof can be shown.
  19. Every team must dress a minimum of 6 players and 1 goaltender. Failure to dress the minimum will result in a forfeit.  
  20. Forfeited game; score 3 - 0
  21. A player must participate in at least 2 (two) games during the round robin portion of the tournament to be eligible for the playoff round. The only exception being if the player was injured during this tournament. In this case, player must have played in 1 game.


Tournament Format (4-team tournament)

  1. All teams will be placed in one division
  2. All teams will play three (3) round robin games.  1 game against each team within division
  3. After round robin games, teams will be re-seeded 1 thru 4
  4. Teams seeded 1st  & 4th will play Semi-Final #1
  5. Teams seeded 2nd & 3rd will play Semi-Final #2
  6. Winners of Semi-Finals #1 & #2 will play in the Tournament Championship game


Playoffs Tie Breakers

In the case of 2 teams tied we will go through this process (1 to 8) one by one until 1 team is distinguished better than the other.

In the case when 2 or more teams are tied, we will go through the steps 1 to 8 listed below, one by one, with all the teams tied, until 1 team and only 1 team is identified ahead of all the other(s). That team will win the tie-breaker. We will repeat the whole process from step 1 with the remaining tied teams until the next position in the standings is verified and so forth.


The following steps will be followed in the tie-breaking process

  1. Most points
  2. Head to Head or Team Vs. Team
  3. Most goals for
  4. Least goals against
  5. Fastest goal against each other in head to head
  6. Fastest goal at the beginning of a game in the tournament
  7. Least penalty minutes during the tournament
  8. Flip of a coin

Tie Playoff Games

Semi-Finals and Final = Games are three (3) 12 minutes periods. High School division = Two (2) 18 minute halves.  (Last 10 minutes running time if more than 5 goals differential).
If there is a tie game at the end of regulation time during the tournament semi-final and/or final, the following overtime rules will apply.

  1. One, Five minutes sudden-death periods. Four on Four + Goaltender
  2. Shoot-out, Three penalty shots to each team. Should tie persist, one penalty shot each until there is a winner. No one player can shoot twice during shootout until the entire bench has shot (excluding goaltenders)

 

The committee reserves itself the final word on the interpretation of the rules.

ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY

Respect the referees and off-ice officials at all times. At any time should a Fan, Parent, Coach, Player, or any other individual disregard the Zero Tolerance policy and become abusive, they will be removed from the facility.  Those persons will be asked to take part in a meeting with the Tournament Director and Referee in Chief prior to being allowed back into the tournament.  Should you have a situation you would like to discuss concerning a particular individual, we have appointed a referee in chief who will be available to you.  He does not have the power to change a officials decision. However, we have advised our officiating staff to treat coaches with respect and they will expect the same in return. They will not exercise any patience when being abused, and full authority within the rules will be exercised in dealing with these situations.
